Bustos Highlights New Analysis That Finds Build Back Better Act Could Save Illinois Families More Than $10,000 Annually in Child Care Costs

WASHINGTON -- Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) highlighted a new report today, released by the House Committee on Education and Labor. According to the newly released analysis, the Build Back Better Act could save Illinois families thousands of dollars in child care costs each year.

The Committee's report found that an Illinois family of four with one infant in full-time center-based child care would save an estimated $11,690 each year. An Illinois family of four with one infant and one child in full-time center-based child care would save an estimated $22,400 each year.

"Child care costs an arm and a leg and hardworking Illinois families need some help. It's time for Congress to take action to reduce the incredible burden these costs impose -- and that's just what the Build Back Better Act will do," said Congresswoman Bustos. "The Build Back Better Act is an opportunity for us to build an economy that works for working families."

Under the Build Back Better Act, no family would pay more than 7 percent of their income on child care. Families making 100 percent of the State Median Income or less -- $97,631 for a family of four in Illinois -- would pay no more than 2 percent of their income on child care, regardless of the number of children they have in child care.

The legislation's child care investments, which the House Education and Labor Committee advanced in September, would give families greater financial security, allow more parents to rejoin the workforce and help grow the economy.
